Last summer I went to Walmart and bought a little black journal that I intended to keep my daily thoughts in. I thought that because of my love of writing that It would be an easy thing to stay on top of. And, not surprisingly, on the first few pages I had written several lengthy entries. It was actually an obsession of mine for a few days, but it soon became a very boring and remedial task to me.
I guess because I figured that I would just destroy the stupid thing before I died, and not let anyone ever see it. I soon stopped writing in it altogether, even though I believed there was a lot of value in it. I instead decided to create a blog in the future and chronicle my thoughts in that way. I think it’s important that everyone write down their thoughts somewhere. In earlier days, people used journals and letters to express their thoughts, now we have things like blogs and email.
I have been very active on the internet over the past year, creating websites and niche blogs (blogs only about certain topics), but this is my first actual “me” blog. By that, I mean a blog where I can talk about anything, make personal references, and pretty much have no parameters to my writing. It’s just me and my keyboard.
I do hope that this blog won’t be just like any other. I realize that a large portion of the blogging community is driven by a kind of new age narcissism, that also drives the ever increasing popularity of social networks like facebook and myspace. My hope is to occasionally discuss some real issues I have encountered in my life, and not just talk about what I had for breakfast or what I like/dislike about this or that. I hope to bring up some issues that can be relevant to pretty much anyone, and issues that can be solved with a little help from God. Oh no! I said the “G” word!
Fear not! My goal is not to preach to anyone, but only to enforce my views with the foundation that I have – which is a faith in Jesus Christ. I’m not going to type up any blog style sermons or create a blog post entirely centered around verses found in the Bible. This is just a blog that happens to be written by someone who is a Christian. For the most part, my blog will be light-hearted, fun and pretty much about anything you can think of (not just weighty matters). I hope that my faith in Christ will be evident through what I write, and I hope that the things I say will serve my family and friends (probably my only audience). I am doing this for them.
When It comes to verbally communicating myself with others (at least on anything other then a 1 on 1 basis), I’ve always thought that I was poor at it. I hope that blogging can be another way for me to communicate myself to others, if not verbally. In addition to that, I hope to sharpen my writing skills, seeing as it is I am a journalism major. I’m not going to become a fanatic, but I do want to commit to at least one blog post per day.
With that being said, I will now end the beggining of my new blog. I hope that my future posts will benefit you in some way or another!
